Virgin Trains' battle with airlines over travel between Manchester and London reverted to "guerrilla marketing" yesterday as Sir Richard Branson's staff boarded flights in red t-shirts adorned with anti-airline slogans. The squad wore messages such as "get your sick bag ready", claiming rail journeys were quicker than taking to the air. A swift sense of humour failure ensued as BA staff (or airport terminal management, depending on who you ask) suggested they cover up. Virgin Trains claims its team were "threatened with arrest" if they continued to behave as walking billboards. BA denies this: "It's beyond our dignity to do anything like that. The fact that they travelled on BA is great news and means more revenue for us."
