Bishop of Overcomers Christian Mission, Owerri, Imo State, Alexander Ezeugo, has stated that the recent spate of air crashes which has claimed the lives of many people are the handiwork of some Nigerian politicians, who use occult power to achieve their political aims.

He insisted that the politicians have colluded with the powers of darkness to bring down a reign of terror, so that their political calculations and permutations will come to reality in 2007.

Speaking with newsmen at the church’s headquarters at Aladinma in Owerri, the Imo State capital, at the commemoration of his 40 years on the pulpit and 25 years existence of the church, Ezeugo, said that he has prayed against these anomalies that have bedeviled the country in recent times and that it is not yet over.

His words: “some politicians in their quest to maintain their stronghold on power have employed the services of demons, who have gone about performing their duties by causing air crashes and spilling blood.

Occult men and women, witches and wizards have their hands in the crashes. They are not mere mechanical problems.

Demonic forces are seriously at work and blood sucking demons are at work. These demons are employed by men who want to stay in power forever.”

He added that the irony of the whole situation is that armed robbers have chased away Nigerians from using the roads to get to their destinations, but that occult practices are now making the sky unsafe for the people.

He further explained that armed robbers are now laughing at us and asking us to come down. All the armed robbers are oiling their guns and asking us to come down because nobody wants to travel by air again due to the crashes.

He also said the quest for power is pushing many people into unwarranted activities and that the politicians must eschew actions that will sever the country against the background of unrests in most parts of the country.

Ezeugo, whose predictions in the past 10 years for Imo and the country all came to fulfillment, predicted a turbulent 2006 for the country, a situation he said, will be necessitated by political wrangling and untoward ambitions.

He urged the country to pray fervently so that the division which has been talked about in recent times do not take place, adding that he has also instructed is pastors to pray for the problem to go away. He, however, declined comments on whether President Olusegun Obasanjo will succeed in the third term project, saying instead that if God wants him to be, there is nothing anybody can do about it, and that those who are opposing it will be wasting their time.
